Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services (NKCES) is proud to announce a grant award of $7.48 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Building on NKCES’s ongoing commitment to serving the Northern Kentucky region, this significant investment will support the establishment of the Northern Kentucky Center for AWAREness and Empowerment (NKCAE), expanding a system of support designed to strengthen mental health resources, services, and connections for students, schools, and communities. Project work begins September 30, 2026.

A Regional Investment in Northern Kentucky Students

Project AWARE - Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education - is designed to build comprehensive approaches to supporting the mental health needs of children and youth. Through NKCAE, NKCES will work with member school districts and community partners to strengthen connections between schools and behavioral health resources, increase the capacity of educators and school systems to recognize and respond to student needs, and develop sustainable regional systems of support.
