Mrs. Skirvin is a passionate kindergarten teacher at Grandview Elementary School in the Bellevue Independent School District. Mrs. Skirvin is a teacher that continually pushes her own practice by reading professional books, keeping up on the latest research and reflecting upon student work. Mrs. Skirvin stresses independence through modeling and the gradual release of responsibility. She utilizes a workshop structure for learning which fosters thinking. The kindergartners in Mrs. Skirvin’s classroom take charge of their own learning. Mrs. Skirvin’s kindergarten classroom has been identified as a “lab classroom” and Mrs. Skirvin will be a lab host for the 2017 Thinking Strategies Institute.
